Vidar Flooring American Black Walnut Herringbone & Chevron 5" Engineered Hardwood
Most people choose engineered hardwood for the look and keep it for the stability, the part you only appreciate after a few Ontario winters.
In simple terms: Vidar Flooring American Black Walnut Herringbone & Chevron 5" is engineered hardwood, which means a real black walnut surface over a cross-layered core. You get the look of solid wood with the stability to put it over concrete or in a basement. Squarefoot Flooring stocks it and installs it in-house.
The wood and the build: It is real black walnut, a deep chocolate tone with a soft, formal character. On the Janka scale Black Walnut runs about 1010, below oak, so it favours lower-traffic, formal spaces. It carries a 3mm dry-sawn wear layer, real sawn wood you can refinish like solid hardwood at least once over its life. The core is the quiet workhorse here. A cross-layered engineered core resists the expansion and contraction that makes solid wood cup, gap, or lift. That is why it can go over in-floor radiant heat, places solid hardwood cannot. Planks run 5 inches wide. A low-sheen matte finish keeps dust and footprints from showing. Micro-bevelled edges give each plank a defined line and absorb the seasonal movement of a wood floor. It is a Select and Better grade, kept clean and consistent in colour and grain. Colours in the range include Natural, Chocolate, and Provence.
Our installers handle Vidar Flooring American Black Walnut Herringbone & Chevron 5" from subfloor moisture testing to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. Over concrete we typically glue down, over plywood we nail or float, and the prep is where the job is won. See the hardwood installation page.
Decision line: with a thick wear layer, Vidar American Black Walnut Herringbone & Chevron 5" behaves like solid hardwood you can refinish, but goes in basements and over radiant heat where solid cannot. It is the choice when you want one floor to do both.
It is worth seeing Vidar American Black Walnut Herringbone & Chevron 5" in person before deciding. Visit either showroom, contact us to confirm current stock, and see more in the engineered hardwood range. Because it is rated for radiant heat, it also pairs with the in-floor heating membranes we stock. For the full Vidar Flooring range, see our Vidar Flooring page.
