Shaw Floors Couture Engineered Hardwood

There is a lot of marketing noise around engineered hardwood, but it comes down to two things that matter: how thick the real-wood layer is, and how stable the core is.

In simple terms: Shaw Floors Couture is a real-wood floor, a layer of genuine white oak bonded to a stable engineered core. It looks and feels like solid hardwood, but the core lets it handle concrete, basements, and humidity that would move a solid plank. We carry it and our own crew installs it.

It is real white oak, a cooler, more contemporary cast with a tighter grain than red oak, and a touch harder. White Oak sits around 1360 on the Janka hardness scale, right at the oak benchmark for everyday durability. Underneath the wood is a cross-layered engineered core, and that is the whole point: it keeps the floor flat where a solid board would react to the seasons. That is why it may be suitable for on-grade or above-grade use, and some collections for below-grade use when approved, including basements and concrete slabs, and over in-floor radiant heat, places solid hardwood cannot. Planks run 7 1/2 inches wide, a wide-plank look that shows off the grain. The surface is wire-brushed, which lifts the grain for texture and quietly hides everyday wear. The planks have micro-bevelled edges, which frame each board and hide the slight height differences that come with real wood. Colours in the range include Champagne, Crema, Chateau, Praline, and Noir.

Decision line: Couture is the practical middle ground, real wood with the stability to go over concrete, into basements, and across the seasons.
