Shaw Floors Castlewood Engineered Hardwood
Real wood on top, a stable core underneath: that combination is why engineered hardwood ends up in more Toronto condos and finished basements than solid ever could.
In simple terms: Shaw Floors Castlewood pairs a real white oak top layer with an engineered core built for stability. It gives you a genuine wood floor that can go where solid planks cannot, and we carry and install it ourselves.
Decision line: choose Castlewood when you want genuine hardwood that will stay flat over a slab or in a basement.
The detail behind that: It is real white oak, a cooler, more contemporary cast with a tighter grain than red oak, and a touch harder. White Oak sits around 1360 on the Janka hardness scale, right at the oak benchmark for everyday durability. What you are paying for is stability. A multi-ply core holds its shape across the seasonal humidity swing that moves solid wood. That is why it can go on, above, or below grade, including basements and concrete slabs, and over in-floor radiant heat, places solid hardwood cannot. Widths run from 7.48 to 7 1/2 inches, so you can keep it classic or go wide-plank and modern. The surface is wire-brushed, which lifts the grain for texture and quietly hides everyday wear. The planks have micro-bevelled edges, which frame each board and hide the slight height differences that come with real wood. Colours in the range include Arrow, Renaissance, Dynasty, Knight, and.
Our installers handle Shaw Floors Castlewood from subfloor moisture testing to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. Over concrete we typically glue down, over plywood we nail or float, and the prep is where the job is won. See the hardwood installation page.
Wood reads differently across a full floor than in a sample chip, so it is worth seeing Castlewood under room light at either showroom. It is radiant-rated, so it pairs with the in-floor heating membranes we stock for in-floor heating projects. Contact us to check availability, or browse the full hardwood flooring range.
