Why Simba Hickory Stands Out

Engineered hardwood gets dismissed as the budget option, which misses the point: it is real wood built to go where a solid plank fails.

In simple terms: Simba Flooring Hickory pairs a real hickory top layer with an engineered core built for stability. It gives you a genuine wood floor that can go where solid planks cannot, and we carry and install it ourselves.

It is real hickory, dramatic grain, natural colour variation, and the hardest common domestic species. Hickory sits around 1820 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark, so it shrugs off busy traffic. It uses a 1.2mm wear layer, built to be lived on rather than resanded, so it is best treated as a durable finished floor. What you are paying for is stability. A cross-layered engineered core holds its shape across the seasonal humidity swing that moves solid wood. Widths run from 5 to 7 1/2 inches, so you can keep it classic or go wide-plank and modern. It carries a 25-year warranty. Colours in the range include Battleship, Bristol, Summer, Venezuela, and American.

Decision line: choose Simba Hickory for the look and the stability, not for repeated sanding; the wear layer is built to be lived on.

Our installers handle Simba Flooring Hickory from subfloor moisture testing to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. Over concrete we typically glue down, over plywood we nail or float, and the prep is where the job is won. See the hardwood installation page.

We keep Simba Hickory at both stores, where the grain, sheen, and colour read properly. Contact us about availability, or start from our Toronto and Barrie hardwood pages.

Still Have Questions?

Quick answers about this collection before you buy.

What is Simba Flooring Hickory?
Simba Flooring Hickory is engineered hardwood, a layer of real hickory bonded to a stable multi-ply core. It looks and sands like solid wood but stays flat over concrete, in basements, and through Ontario's humidity. Squarefoot Flooring carries it and installs it with our own crew.
Can Simba Hickory be sanded and refinished?
Simba Hickory uses a 1.2mm wear layer, so it is best treated as a durable finished floor rather than one you sand back. A light screen-and-recoat is usually the right refresh.
How hard is Simba Hickory, and will it dent?
The hickory surface sits around 1820 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark of 1290, so it resists dents and busy traffic well. No wood floor is dent-proof, but the wear layer and finish do most of the work.
Where can I see Simba Hickory near me?
You can see Simba Flooring Hickory at both Squarefoot Flooring showrooms, in Mississauga at 700 Dundas St E, Unit 3-4, and in Barrie at 112 Saunders Rd, Units 1-4. Grain and finish read differently across a full floor, so we recommend seeing a sample first.
