Why Imperial Pecan Stands Out

Ask any installer what separates good engineered hardwood from the rest and they will point at the wear layer, not the price tag.

In simple terms: Shaw Floors Imperial Pecan is engineered hardwood, which means a real pecan surface over a cross-layered core. You get the look of solid wood with the stability to put it over concrete or in a basement. Squarefoot Flooring stocks it and installs it in-house.

Decision line: Imperial Pecan is the practical middle ground, real wood with the stability to go over concrete, into basements, and across the seasons.

The detail behind that: It is real pecan, warm tones with strong grain character, closely related to hickory. Pecan sits around 1820 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark, so it shrugs off busy traffic. The core is the quiet workhorse here. A cross-layered engineered core resists the expansion and contraction that makes solid wood cup, gap, or lift. Planks run 7 1/2 inches wide, a wide-plank look that shows off the grain. The surface is smooth, a clean and contemporary finish. Micro-bevelled edges give each plank a defined line and absorb the seasonal movement of a wood floor.

Our installers handle Shaw Floors Imperial Pecan from subfloor moisture testing to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. Over concrete we typically glue down, over plywood we nail or float, and the prep is where the job is won. See the hardwood installation page.

A small sample never shows how Imperial Pecan moves across a whole room. See it at our Mississauga or Barrie store, contact us about availability, and compare materials on the hardwood vs vinyl guide. You can browse the complete Shaw Floors lineup on our Shaw Floors page.

Still Have Questions?

Quick answers about this collection before you buy.

What is Shaw Floors Imperial Pecan?
Shaw Floors Imperial Pecan is engineered hardwood, a layer of real pecan bonded to a stable multi-ply core. It looks and sands like solid wood but stays flat over concrete, in basements, and through Ontario's humidity. Squarefoot Flooring carries it and installs it with our own crew.
How hard is Imperial Pecan, and will it dent?
The pecan surface sits around 1820 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark of 1290, so it resists dents and busy traffic well. No wood floor is dent-proof, but the wear layer and finish do most of the work.
Where can I see Imperial Pecan near me?
You can see Shaw Floors Imperial Pecan at both Squarefoot Flooring showrooms, in Mississauga at 700 Dundas St E, Unit 3-4, and in Barrie at 112 Saunders Rd, Units 1-4. Grain and finish read differently across a full floor, so we recommend seeing a sample first.
