The fastest way to ruin a laminate floor is to put a water-shy one where life actually happens, by the stove, the tub, or the entry.

In simple terms: Toucan Flooring Matt Handscraped is a 12.3mm AC4 rated water-resistant laminate. It is meant for the rooms where water is part of daily life, and our own crew installs it.

Here is what you are actually buying. Matt Handscraped runs a 12.3mm board on the thicker end of the range, which gives a solid, quiet step and bridges minor subfloor irregularities better than thin planks. It carries an AC4 wear rating, a step above standard that holds up to busy family households, hallways, and main floors. The core is high-density fibreboard, which resists denting and holds the locking profile better than the cheaper particleboard in budget laminate. The surface is finished with a natural wood-look texture. It installs with a drop-lock click system, a glue-free floating install that keeps labour costs down and lets the floor be lifted and reused later. It has a water-resistant core, which lets it handle the spills and humidity that would swell a standard laminate at the joints. It is also stain resistant. It is backed by a 30-year residential and 15-year commercial warranty.

That construction is what lets Matt Handscraped go where ordinary laminate cannot: kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and entries, and anywhere a spill or wet boot is part of daily life. The range includes tones such as TF1101-F, TF1108-F, TF1119-F, TF1123-F, and TF3101-F.

Decision line: Matt Handscraped is the pick wherever water is a factor, kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and entries; keep a standard laminate for the dry rooms to save.

We install Toucan Flooring Matt Handscraped with our own crew, never subcontracted, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County. Most laminate problems trace back to the subfloor, so we level it, underlay it correctly, and finish the transitions. More on the laminate installation page.

Worth seeing in person, since grain and sheen read differently across a floor. Matt Handscraped is at our Mississauga and Barrie showrooms; contact us to check stock, or compare on the vinyl vs laminate guide.
