Why European Oak Prime Stands Out

Engineered hardwood gets dismissed as the budget option, which misses the point: it is real wood built to go where a solid plank fails.

In simple terms: GoodFellow Flooring European Oak Prime is a real-wood floor, a layer of genuine oak bonded to a stable engineered core. It looks and feels like solid hardwood, but the core lets it handle concrete, basements, and humidity that would move a solid plank. We carry it and our own crew installs it.

It is real oak, a warm, familiar grain that takes stain well and suits almost any room. Its wear layer is a thick 4mm of real wood, enough to sand and refinish more than once, just like a solid floor. Underneath the wood is a cross-layered engineered core, and that is the whole point: it keeps the floor flat where a solid board would react to the seasons. That is why it can go over in-floor radiant heat, places solid hardwood cannot. Widths run from 5 to 7 1/2 inches, so you can keep it classic or go wide-plank and modern. The surface is wire-brushed, which lifts the grain for texture and quietly hides everyday wear. It carries a 25-year residential warranty. Colours in the range include Aster, Spirit Grey, Smokey Quartz, Petrified, and Aged.

Decision line: with a thick wear layer, European Oak Prime behaves like solid hardwood you can refinish, but goes in basements and over radiant heat where solid cannot. It is the choice when you want one floor to do both.

We install GoodFellow Flooring European Oak Prime with our own team, not subcontractors, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County. The method depends on the subfloor, glued to concrete, floated, or nailed to plywood, and a flat, dry base matters more than anything. Read how we work on the hardwood installation page, or see our projects.

It is worth seeing European Oak Prime in person before deciding. Visit either store, contact us to confirm current stock, and see more in the engineered hardwood range. Because it is rated for radiant heat, it also pairs with the in-floor heating membranes we stock. For the full GoodFellow Flooring range, see our GoodFellow Flooring page.

Still Have Questions?

Quick answers about this collection before you buy.

What is GoodFellow Flooring European Oak Prime?
GoodFellow Flooring European Oak Prime is engineered hardwood, a layer of real oak bonded to a stable multi-ply core. It looks and sands like solid wood but stays flat over concrete, in basements, and through Ontario's humidity. Squarefoot Flooring carries it and installs it with our own crew.
Can European Oak Prime go in a basement or over radiant heat?
Yes. Unlike solid hardwood, European Oak Prime is rated for use over in-floor radiant heat, because the cross-layered core resists the movement that affects solid wood. It still needs a flat, dry subfloor and proper acclimation, which we handle on install.
Can European Oak Prime be sanded and refinished?
Yes. European Oak Prime has a 4mm real-wood wear layer, thick enough to sand and refinish more than once over its life, much like a solid floor.
Where can I see European Oak Prime near me?
You can see GoodFellow Flooring European Oak Prime at both Squarefoot Flooring showrooms, in Mississauga at 700 Dundas St E, Unit 3-4, and in Barrie at 112 Saunders Rd, Units 1-4. Grain and finish read differently across a full floor, so we recommend seeing a sample first.
