Adhesives, mortars and membranes are made for particular floors and subfloors, and the floor maker's installation guide often names what it allows. Bring the floor or tile you are buying, the subfloor type and the room size, and we will match the supplies to it.

Quick answers to the questions homeowners ask most before buying.

What is the difference between a waterproofing and an uncoupling membrane?
A waterproofing membrane, such as Schluter Kerdi, stops water passing through to the wall or floor behind the tile. An uncoupling membrane, such as Schluter Ditra, separates the tile from movement in the subfloor so that movement does not crack the tile and grout.
Which grout should I use?
Sanded or unsanded cement grout depending on joint width, Mapei Kerapoxy CQ epoxy grout, or ready-to-use Mapei Flexcolor CQ. Check the joint width range on the grout and bring the tile so we can match the colour.
Do I need underlayment for a floating floor?
Most floating floors need one unless the planks come with a pad attached. Over concrete, choose one with a vapour barrier, and in a condo check the building's sound rules first. See our flooring underlayments.
What mortar do I need for large format tile?
A large tile mortar, such as Mapei Ultraflex LFT or Tec Ultimate Large Tile, with the back of the tile buttered for full coverage. Follow the tile and mortar makers' requirements.
Where can I buy Schluter Ditra in Mississauga or Barrie?
Both stores carry Schluter Ditra and Kerdi: Mississauga at 700 Dundas St E, Unit 3-4, 905-277-2227, and Barrie at 112 Saunders Rd, Units 1-4, 705-726-2272.
Do you carry Mapei products?
Yes, at both stores, including Mapei mortar, grout, flooring adhesives and membranes.
