Biyork Floors Hickory Engineered Hardwood
Ask any installer what separates good engineered hardwood from the rest and they will point at the wear layer, not the price tag.
In simple terms: Biyork Floors Hickory is a real-wood floor, a layer of genuine hickory bonded to a stable engineered core. It looks and feels like solid hardwood, but the core lets it handle concrete, basements, and humidity that would move a solid plank. We carry it and our own crew installs it.
It is real hickory, dramatic grain, natural colour variation, and the hardest common domestic species. Hickory sits around 1820 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark, so it shrugs off busy traffic. The wear layer is 2mm of real wood, enough for one careful refinish down the road. The real advantage is underneath: a dimensionally stable engineered core that stays flat through Ontario's dry winters and humid summers, where a solid plank would cup or gap. Micro-bevelled edges define each plank and disguise the small seasonal movement every wood floor has. It is a character grade, with natural colour variation and knots. It carries a 30-year warranty.
Decision line: Biyork Hickory is the practical middle ground, real wood with the stability to go over concrete, into basements, and across the seasons.
Our installers handle Biyork Floors Hickory from subfloor moisture testing to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. Over concrete we typically glue down, over plywood we nail or float, and the prep is where the job is won. See the hardwood installation page.
It is worth seeing Biyork Hickory in person before deciding. Visit either showroom, contact us to confirm current stock, and see more in the engineered hardwood range. For the full Biyork Floors range, see our Biyork Floors page.
