It uses a 1.8mm wear layer, built to be lived on rather than resanded, so it is best treated as a durable finished floor. Underneath the wood is a dimensionally stable engineered core, and that is the whole point: it keeps the floor flat where a solid board would react to the seasons. That is why it may be suitable for on-grade or above-grade use, and some collections for below-grade use when approved, including basements and concrete slabs, and over in-floor radiant heat, places solid hardwood cannot.
