Why Appalachian Floors Stands Out

Canadian hardwood, made for this climate

Appalachian Flooring is a Canadian hardwood manufacturer, and that one fact answers the question that matters most in Ontario: will this floor cope with our winters? A board milled and finished for the Canadian market is built around forced-air heating, summer humidity and the seasonal swing between them, not around a milder climate it was never tested in.

Solid hardwood: the long-game floor

The solid side covers oak, red oak and hard maple in collections like Signature and Appalachian Oak Hardwood, in widths from classic strips to wider modern boards. Solid hardwood is the floor you sand and refinish across decades, and it belongs above grade in rooms with stable humidity.

Decision line: main-floor living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms above grade, solid is the buy-once answer; kitchens, basements and slab floors, step to engineered.

Engineered: the same look where solid cannot go

Engineered lines like Alta Moda and Verita put a real hardwood wear layer over a cross-ply core, which is what lets the board sit over concrete, over in-floor heat and in rooms where humidity moves. The surface is the same species and finish quality as the solid line; the construction underneath is what changes.

Grades, textures and the character question

Appalachian is unusually clear about grading, from clean select grades through character grades that keep the knots and mineral streaks. Wire-brushed and matte finishes hide the life of a busy household; glossy clean grades show everything, including footprints. We keep boards of each on the floor so you can judge with your eyes, not a catalogue.

Decision line: kids and dogs, pick a character grade with a brushed matte finish; a formal space, the select grades are where the money shows.
