Why Falcon Floors Stands Out

Here's what we tell customers in the store when they compare flooring options: the right product depends on where the floor is going, not just what it looks like. Falcon Floors carries two distinct product lines, engineered hardwood for above-grade rooms where real wood performance is the intent, and rigid-core luxury vinyl plank where 100 percent waterproof construction is a requirement. Getting that decision right upfront is the most important part of any flooring project.

Falcon Floors is built around practical performance rather than design trends or brand positioning. It is a product line focused on the two most common real-world flooring needs in Ontario homes: stable engineered hardwood for dry areas, and Evolution vinyl for moisture-prone spaces.

In simple terms: if you are replacing flooring and you are not sure whether to go hardwood or vinyl, Falcon Floors carries both, and our store team will give you a straight answer on which product is right for your specific subfloor and application before you commit to anything.

Most customers visit our Mississauga and Barrie stores to compare Falcon Floors hardwood and vinyl side by side before deciding. Browse the full engineered hardwood and vinyl flooring ranges for all Falcon Floors products, or see our full selection to compare across brands first. As a general rule, Evolution vinyl is the safer choice where moisture is a factor, and engineered hardwood is the right choice where real wood character matters.

Falcon Floors engineered hardwood

Falcon Floors carries engineered hardwood in three species, oak, maple, and hickory, covering current Ontario residential design from contemporary white oak through to the most character-rich domestic species.

The Falcon Oak collection is engineered white oak in a wide plank, the dominant species and format in current Ontario renovation design. White oak's cooler, more neutral grain works with the grey, white, and warm-white palettes leading interior design right now. The engineered construction handles Ontario's seasonal humidity swing, the forced-air heating winters that drop indoor humidity and the humid summers that push it back up, without the gapping and movement that affects solid oak in the same conditions. For most homeowners searching for engineered hardwood near them, oak is where the conversation starts.

The Falcon Maple collection is engineered hard maple, a Janka rating around 1450, harder than red oak at about 1290, with a fine, consistent grain that reads light and clean. It suits high-traffic main floors, hallways, and family rooms where dent resistance matters, and the contemporary, Scandinavian-influenced look popular in new construction.

The Falcon Hickory collection is the most character-rich option in the range, with pronounced grain variation, mineral streaks, and natural knots that make no two planks identical. Hickory is also the hardest of the three domestic species here, around 1820 on the Janka scale, which makes it a strong long-term choice for active family homes and Simcoe County cottages.

Decision line: start in white oak for a current, resale-friendly floor, step to maple for a clean contemporary look with good hardness, and choose hickory for the most natural character and the hardest surface.

Falcon Floors Evolution vinyl

Falcon Floors carries two rigid-core luxury vinyl collections, covering applications from a standard main floor through to a heavier specification for condos and basements. The Falcon Floors vinyl collection is rigid-core vinyl plank, 100 percent waterproof, scratch-resistant, and suited for above, on, and below grade. The dense stone-polymer core handles the temperature and humidity variation common in Ontario basements and ground-floor slabs without the expansion that affects thinner vinyl, which makes it the right call for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and open-concept main floors.

The Falcon Floors Pro collection steps up to a heavier wear layer and enhanced acoustic performance, on a construction suited to high-traffic residential and light commercial use. It ships with a condo-grade acoustic pad, so with the correct underlayment it meets most Toronto and Mississauga condo IIC sound-rating requirements. For retail, office, and hospitality work where a residential-grade product would show wear within a few years, Pro is the right step up.

Decision line: the standard Falcon Floors vinyl covers most residential waterproof needs; choose Pro for condos with a sound-rating requirement or for light commercial traffic.

When hardwood is right, and when vinyl is right

This is the most common decision point at our store. Both lines look convincing in wood-look finishes, but they perform very differently. Choose Falcon Floors engineered hardwood for above-grade plywood and concrete subfloors in dry main-floor rooms where real wood character and refinishability over time are priorities. Engineered hardwood has limits in high-moisture environments and cannot be installed below grade. Choose Falcon Floors Evolution vinyl for basements, bathrooms, kitchens, below-grade rooms, and any space where moisture is a real factor. rigid-core is 100 percent waterproof throughout, with no limit on moisture exposure. It is harder underfoot than hardwood but handles rooms hardwood cannot.

If you install hardwood in a below-grade basement, it will fail. We see this happen more often than it should, and we will tell you the right answer upfront before you commit to anything.
