Roca Tile's Pro Sand is a 12" x 24" polished porcelain tile and 9 mm thick. Roca Pro Sand is for the hardest-worn floors in a house and for retail and hospitality. It solves a floor that will be walked on all day for years. That is what the PEI 5 wear rating means in practice. A dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.42 or above clears the ANSI A326.3 threshold of 0.42, so it is rated for a level interior floor that gets wet. Water absorption of 0.5% or less is the figure that makes it a porcelain rather than a ceramic. The trade-off is upkeep. A polished face reads brighter than the same colour in matte, but it shows footmarks and dust sooner, so it rewards a house that gets swept. The edges are rectified, cut square after firing, which lets a tiler close the joint to about an eighth of an inch. It also means the substrate has to be flat, because a tight joint leaves nowhere to hide a dip. Pair it with a matching bullnose or a metal trim at the edges, an uncoupling membrane over a concrete slab, and a large-format mortar, because a tile this size needs full coverage under it.
