Roca Tile's Calacatta Oro is a 24" x 48" polished porcelain tile in a marble look, veined across the face, made in Spain and 9 mm thick. Roca Calacatta Oro is for bedrooms, living areas and bathrooms. It solves the everyday residential floor: hard-wearing enough for daily use, without paying for a commercial-grade body. That is what the PEI 3 wear rating means in practice. A dynamic coefficient of friction of 0.40 or less sits below the 0.42 ANSI A326.3 threshold, so keep it off wet floors and use a textured tile in a shower base. Water absorption of 0.5% or less is the figure that makes it a porcelain rather than a ceramic. The trade-off is upkeep. A polished face reads brighter than the same colour in matte, but it shows footmarks and dust sooner, so it rewards a house that gets swept. The edges are rectified, cut square after firing, which lets a tiler close the joint to about an eighth of an inch. It also means the substrate has to be flat, because a tight joint leaves nowhere to hide a dip. Pair it with a matching bullnose or a metal trim at the edges, an uncoupling membrane over a concrete slab, and a large-format mortar, because a tile this size needs full coverage under it.
