Why Triforest Floors Stands Out

Triforest Flooring & Toucan Trim in Mississauga & Barrie

Triforest Flooring is a flooring manufacturer and wholesale distributor that produces the Toucan brand of Evolution vinyl plank, laminate, looselay vinyl, and trim products. Triforest distributes exclusively through licensed independent flooring retailers - the public and contractors cannot purchase directly from Triforest. Squarefoot Flooring is an authorized Triforest dealer carrying the complete Toucan trim range in stock at both stores.

This page covers the Triforest trim and moulding range - MDF primed baseboards, crown moulding, door and window casings, shoe moulding, and quarter round. Why Trim Matters

A floor is only finished when the trim is on. Baseboards cover the expansion gap at the wall. Door casings frame every opening. Shoe moulding closes the gap between the baseboard and the floor surface. Crown moulding transitions the wall to the ceiling. Skip any of these and the installation looks unfinished regardless of the quality of the floor itself. The Toucan MDF primed trim range is designed to coordinate directly with Toucan laminate and Evolution vinyl installations - same brand, same jobsite, no sourcing from multiple suppliers.

Toucan MDF Primed Baseboards

The Toucan Baseboard collection covers 12 MDF primed profiles across multiple heights and styles - from flat stock and colonial profiles through stepped and sculpted profiles suited to different architectural styles and ceiling heights. MDF primed baseboards are the standard specification for painted interiors across Ontario new builds and renovations. The MDF surface accepts paint without wood grain telegraphing through, is more dimensionally stable than solid wood in Ontario's humidity swings, and delivers a consistently smooth, clean edge that reads as professional.

Profile heights range from 3-1/2" through 7-1/4" - taller profiles suit the 9-foot and 10-foot ceilings that have become standard in Mississauga and Barrie new construction. The right profile height depends on ceiling height and the visual weight of the room. Our store team will advise on the right specification before you order anything.

Matching trim to your Toucan floor: For Toucan Evolution vinyl plank installations, MDF primed baseboards painted to match the wall are the standard specification. The baseboard nails into the wall - never through the floor - and the shoe moulding covers the expansion gap at the floor line. For Toucan laminate installations, the same approach applies.

Toucan Crown Moulding

The Toucan Crown Moulding collection covers 9 MDF primed profiles across cove, ogee, and compound profiles - from the compact Milan at 5/8" x 5" through the substantial Tuscan at 3/4" x 6-1/2". Crown moulding runs at the junction of wall and ceiling, adding visual height and architectural character to a room. It's a detail that suits the taller ceilings of current Ontario construction particularly well - 9-foot and 10-foot ceilings with a proper crown profile read as finished and intentional rather than plain.

Profile selection is primarily about ceiling height and room scale. Compact profiles (5" height) suit standard 8-foot ceilings. Larger profiles (6-1/2" and above) are scaled for rooms with 9-foot ceilings and above. Come into either store and we'll show you the profiles in context.

Toucan Door & Window Casings

The Toucan Door and Window Casing collection covers 8 MDF primed profiles that frame every door and window opening in the room. Matching your casings to your baseboards in profile style creates a cohesive interior - the two should read as part of the same trim family. MDF primed casings are the dominant specification for painted interiors in Toronto, Mississauga, and Barrie renovations and new construction because the surface accepts primer and paint without grain bleeding through.

Toucan Door Stop & Shoe Moulding

The Toucan Door Stop and Shoe Moulding collection covers 9 profiles - the trim pieces that close the gap between the baseboard and the floor surface. On floating floors - Evolution vinyl plank, laminate, engineered hardwood - the floor needs room to expand and contract seasonally. The shoe moulding covers that gap without restricting movement. It's the detail that separates a professional installation from a DIY job that looks slightly off. The shoe moulding nails into the baseboard, not the floor.

Triforest Quarter Round

Quarter round is the smaller curved profile for tighter applications - older homes with existing baseboards that aren't being replaced, utility spaces, and renovations where a full shoe moulding profile is more than the application needs. The Triforest Quarter Round is available in stock at both stores.

Triforest as a Manufacturer - Evolution vinyl & Laminate

Beyond trim, Triforest manufactures the full Toucan Evolution vinyl and laminate range. Triforest operates under ISO9001 and ISO14001 certified manufacturing standards. All Toucan Evolution vinyl is phthalate-free, FloorScore certified, and 100% waterproof across all series. The SPC6 series 20 mil wear layer is rated for commercial traffic. The laminate range uses Jiahe super high-density HDF with wax-sealed locking joints across AC3 and AC4 rated collections. For the complete Toucan vinyl and laminate range, see the Toucan Flooring brand page.

Authorized Triforest Dealer - Toronto, Mississauga & Barrie

Squarefoot Flooring is an authorized Triforest dealer. Triforest products are not available for direct purchase from the manufacturer - distribution is through licensed retailers only. Our in-house installation team handles all Triforest trim and moulding installation as part of complete flooring projects across the GTA and Simcoe County. Baseboard and trim installation done correctly - mitered corners, tight joints, caulked and painted - is what separates a professional result from a renovation that looks slightly unfinished.

Do I need shoe moulding with a floating floor?
Yes. Floating floors - Evolution vinyl plank, laminate, engineered hardwood - need an expansion gap around the perimeter to move seasonally. What height baseboard should I use with Toucan flooring?
Standard rooms with 8-foot ceilings suit a 3 to 3.5 inch baseboard profile. Rooms with 9-foot or 10-foot ceilings suit 4 to 5 inch profiles.
