A rectified tile needs a flat substrate, because a tight grout joint leaves nowhere to take up a dip in the slab, and a large format shows any movement in the floor beneath it.

A matte glaze holds light rather than reflecting it, so it hides dust and water spotting between cleans without brightening a dark room the way a gloss does.
