For a dining room, the rug needs to clear the table by roughly two feet all around so pulled-out chairs do not catch the edge. The detail behind it: It is machine-woven, which keeps the pattern crisp and consistent and the price sensible, and modern power looms produce a tough, hard-wearing rug. The fiber is a polypropylene and polyester blend, a practical mix: the polypropylene brings stain and fade resistance and durability, while the polyester adds softness and a bit of sheen, so it is both easy to live with and pleasant underfoot. A low 8mm pile keeps it sleek and easy to maintain, sits well under doors and dining chairs, and handles traffic without showing wear.
