Flooring Underlayment: Foam & Acoustic Pads

• 1867 Sono+ foam underlays (200 sq ft rolls): EVA black foam with foil, EVA black foam with vapour barrier, foam with an aluminum layer, and blue foam.
• Planchers 1867 membranes: Dura Son and Dura Son MB (216 sq ft), Duracoustic (108 sq ft), Duracushion (162 sq ft), Protector (180 sq ft) and Super Dura (90 sq ft).
• Husssh acoustic pads: Husssh II Premium High Density (IIC 78, STC 73), Husssh Superior (IIC 72, STC 70) and Husssh III Silver (IIC 52, STC 66).

IIC measures footfall noise passing to the unit below; STC measures airborne sound such as voices. Higher is quieter. Condo rules usually set a minimum, often tested as a whole floor assembly, so check your building's requirement before buying.

Many vinyl plank and some laminate floors have a pad already attached or limit the thickness of any underlay. Adding a second pad can void the floor warranty and strain the locking joints. Check the floor's installation guide first; we can look it up when you choose the floor.

On a slab, use an underlay with a vapour barrier, or a separate barrier, so moisture does not reach the floor.
