Why Sucupira Hardwood Stands Out

Real wood ages into a room. A solid floor can be sanded and recoloured years later, so the floor you buy now is not the floor you are stuck with.

In simple terms: Sunca Flooring Sucupira is genuine solid hardwood for the dry, above-grade rooms of a home. Because it is real wood all the way through, it is nailed down and can be refinished rather than replaced. Squarefoot Flooring carries it and our own crew installs it.

It is sucupira, a dense Brazilian species with a deep chocolate tone and dramatic figure. On the Janka hardness scale Sucupira sits around 2140, well above oak, so it resists dents and traffic very well. At a full 3/4 inch, it is solid wood all the way through, which means it can be sanded back and refinished several times over its life and recoloured if your style changes, a floor that can outlast the rest of the room. It is available in a Select and Better grade, which keeps colour and grain clean and consistent. It is made in Canada. Colours in the range include Natural.

Be realistic about where it goes. Real wood expands and contracts with the seasons, so below-grade rooms, wet baths, and most radiant systems are off the table, and the boards acclimate before they are nailed down. For those spaces, choose engineered hardwood instead.

Decision line: Sucupira is one of the harder floors here, a strong pick for busy households, kids, and pets, chosen for both the look and the dent resistance.

Our own installers handle Sunca Flooring Sucupira from the subfloor moisture check to the final trim, across the GTA, Barrie, and Simcoe County, with no subcontractors. See how we work on the hardwood installation page, or look through our projects.

A small sample never tells the whole story with real wood. See Sucupira at our Mississauga or Barrie store, contact us for current stock, and compare materials on the hardwood vs vinyl guide.

Still Have Questions?

Quick answers about this collection before you buy.

What is Sunca Flooring Sucupira?
Sunca Flooring Sucupira is sucupira solid hardwood, made in Canada, a full 3/4 inch thick. It is genuine solid wood for dry, above-grade rooms, nailed down and refinishable over its life. Squarefoot Flooring carries it and installs it with our own crew.
Can Sucupira be sanded and refinished?
Yes. At a full 3/4 inch, Sucupira can be sanded back and refinished several times over its life, and recoloured if your style changes, which is the main advantage of solid hardwood over thinner floors.
Can Sucupira go in a basement or over radiant heat?
Generally no. Solid hardwood moves with humidity, so it is not recommended for below-grade basements, full bathrooms, or most in-floor heating. For those spaces, engineered hardwood is the stable choice, and we can show you the options.
How hard is Sucupira, and will it dent?
Sucupira sits around 2140 on the Janka hardness scale, well above the red oak benchmark of 1290, so it resists dents and traffic very well. No wood floor is dent-proof, but harder species hold up better to pets and busy households.
Where can I see Sucupira near me?
You can see Sunca Flooring Sucupira at both Squarefoot Flooring showrooms, in Mississauga at 700 Dundas St E, Unit 3-4, and in Barrie at 112 Saunders Rd, Units 1-4. Grain and stain read differently across a full floor, so we recommend seeing a sample first.
